Oscar Round-Up

Well, the Oscar's came and went last night and I loved so much of it. First off, my score from my predictions: 18/24. I someone managed to get best picture and best director correctly. I also did manage to guess all of the major awards, with the exception for Best Adapted Screenplay. I learned my lesson, I should always pick a period piece over a more modern drama when it comes to costuming and production design, since I went against the grain for one of those. Anyway, I hope I can get a better score for next year.

On to the night..

I did enjoy Ellen's performance. It was different that what we have gotten the last few years so that was refreshing. I couldn't tell if she was nervous or if the teleprompter was just hard to read, but it were a lot of flubs last night. I did like her 'selfie' moments and when she followed up on her offer to get pizza. It made a nice impression without being controversial or making the night all about her.

The performances were great! I thought that Pharrell was really entertaining and youthful. It's hard to believe that he's 40. U2's performance was nice and simple and Pink was phenomenal as usual. Bette Midler and Karen O had some great moments, albeit in different ways (powerful and understated). Of course Idina was the queen. Even with cracks in her voice  and the speeding up of the song, she took the song on face first and even sang it in the correct (and high) key which is a feat to do live.

I'm super happy with all of the winners, as I feel Her got the recognition it deserved. I kept jumping up, yelling and clapping when Lupita, 12 Years a Slave and Frozen one. Those were my "for sure" picks so I was really happy that the Academy finally got it (mostly) right. Jared Leto (Jordan Catalano) and Lupita Nyong'o both gave beautiful and eloquent speeches. Bill Murray's nod to Harold Ramis was also a very special moment of the night. Plus Frozen swept in their nominations and Robert Lopez received his EGOT (also it only took him ten years to do it!).

FanGirl Rating: A- They didn't play off too many people (or they just kept it short and sweet. The little bits were cute, although they did play to the Twitter generation. It still went really long and I was just exhausted at the end, but I was happy that most of my picks (deservedly) won.
