*Bonus* Catch the Throne Mixtape Review

HBO and Soundcloud just released a hip-hop mixtape based on "Game of Thrones" so of course I had to listen to it. You can get to it here.

Track 1: Mother of Dragons- Big Boi aka Sir Lucious Left Foot
This song is a bit disjointed between the clips used at the beginning and end. The hook seems more parody than a normal song. Also it doesn't make sense when you think of the song as it's supposed to be about Daenerys. Not the strongest song in the album but it does have the name recognition to get people interested. it does have some clever lines in it to keep it funny.

Track 2: Iron Throne- Magazeen
I'm not sure how I feel about how the Tyrion clip at the beginning merging into the reggaeton beat. Also in the chorus the background uses the sample from the intro but it's in a really weird key and the beat is super slowed down so it feels strange. The only thing that saves this (a little) are the lyrics (unlike the first song).

Track 3: Win or Die- Bodega Bamz
Uses a clip from Tyrion's capture in the Vale but then interchanges between talking between Tyrion and maybe Jon's perspective so I didn't really get what the song was about. The beat wasn't horrible, but I after listening to this 4 times, I'm still just as lost.

Track 4: Magical Reality- Kilo Kish
Starts with the clip of Daenerys with Pyat Pree in Season 2. This could be played during her time in the House of the Undying. It has a trippy, Eastern feel to it that fits since Dany is currently in Qarth, Has a nice beat and it was one of the only songs that I thought was a little short, so I'd definitely be interested in hearing a little more.

Track 5: Born to Rule- Daddy Yankee
This uses a sample from Florence + the Machine's "Seven Devils" that was used for Season 2 promo and then goes into an eastern type beat. I think this has to due with Dany with the chorus and everything. All-in-all, not a bad song, it just needs a better transition at the beginning.

Track 6: Arya's Prayer- Domink Omega
Starts with a great beat and tells Arya's story from the altercation with Joffrey. It has great lyrics and a beat. Plus a really nice chorus/hook. It's something that book readers will enjoy, since it seems like he read the book and understands her essence. One of the best songs on this mixtape.

Track 7: The Parallel- Dee Goodz
Not a bad beat or chorus. The song title and content is general enough so it makes sense talking about the difficulties of the Game of Thrones, which is the parallel being referenced (you win or you die). It's a good mid-level song, not terrible, but not super memorable.

Track 8: Fire- Snow tha Product
This would totally be Dany's hype song. This rapper has a great flow and the lyrics are great. Plus the dragon sounds only enhance the epic-ness of the song. Another one of the best songs.

Track 9: The Ladder- Common
This is a great song. Common has a great voice and a nice style. The is based from the "ladder" promo used for Season 3, which is really fitting. The clips used only enhance the song and it is still simplistic enough that it doesn't take away from anything.

Track 10: King Slayer- Wale
Probably the best music in the entire album. Wale doesn't let the background overtake the song and puts in some great references to Jaime and the story in general. I think this is my favorite song on the album.

FanGirl Rating: 3/5 Stars. A good effort but is a bit disjointed at times. At times there is too much of a reliance on the clips being used and not making sure it flows with the beat and feel of the music.
