Game of Thrones 04x01 Recap: The Badassery Continues

Welcome to the beginning of my weekly Game of Thrones recaps where I give my fresh reaction to the show (and you can share yours too). I will break down my reaction by family/group to make it easier to recollect all of the important characters and events.

Episode 1: Two Swords

Lannisters- First of all, the Lannisters are back and they are taking names! Tywin is currently the metaphorical and literal King of the Castle after taking down the Starks and defeating Stannis. He even melts down the Stark family sword Ice into two lesser swords, in which he gives one to Jaime. Speaking of Jaime, he's back and has a hot new haircut with an attitude to match. He's not taking any of his father's nonsense and is sticking to his vows, which is commendable. Now if he could only get rid of his infatuation with Cersei, he'd be good. Plus he has a sweet new hand, which is cool, although useless. Now Cersei is interesting, she thanked Qyburn for helping her with "symptoms"....hmm that sounds getting rid of an unwanted pregnancy to me but I digress. She still is as fierce as ever with her hatred of the Tyrells so this will definitely be fun to watch. Finally, Tyrion was having a bad day. First he gets shamed by Oberyn "The Red Viper" Martell as he recalls the reason for animosity between the two families, then Sansa tells him off after he tries to comfort her (too bad your father had her family killed there, bro). Then his "relationship" with Shae seems to come to an end, so maybe this is the beginning of worse things for him (by looking at the trailers). Also Joffrey is still a tool and even Margaery is showing her disgust, so I'm sure their wedding will be an event for sure.

Martells- Ah, the Red Viper. I hope you all love him as much as I do. You can see that the Dornish are different in all ways including their style and their more fluid sexuality. You can tell Oberyn is there for something a bit more than just Joffrey's wedding so maybe we will see what he is up to in later episodes, though it seems like he wants to take down The Mountain. We also meet his paramour Ellaria Sand, who is stunning and smart so I hope we will see more of her in their adventures in Kings Landing.

Starks- Poor Sansa...there's so few Starks left and they each think the other is dead. Sansa is having a horrible time in King's Landing since learning about the deaths of her mother and brother and is inconsolable. Good thing Ser Dontos is there to give her some nice words and a kinder gift. And good ol' Arya, still as awesome and vengeful as ever. It was nice to see her and the Hound bounding in their own strange way and to see her get her revenge and her sword back.

The Nights Watch- Own of the week goes to Maester Aemon, who destroyed the rest of the council with his quick wit after they were so quick to condemn Jon for his actions in the previous season. I really hope to see Jon step up and become a leader for the Nights Watch but he's sure to come across some opposition.

The Wildings- Well I guess everyone has their problems. Ygritte is still (rightfully) pissed at Jon's betrayal but Tormond does call her out saying that she could have killed him if she wanted to. They also have other problems, like the Thenns from the far North. Like someone said on Twitter, I guess cannibalism is the new incest. These two groups are primed for conflict but maybe they can get it together to take down the Night's Watch.

Daenerys- Maybe she might want to train her dragons before she goes trying to scold them for not sharing? (I mean you can't even do that with certain dogs, and those are horse+ sized). I can already tell that Daario is going to be a possible love interest so we'll see how this goes. I love the growing tension with Daario and GreyWorm, who are badass in their own rights. Obviously Dany is gonna kick some ass and take some names to avenge those people. I bet she will get her 163 lives avenged soon.

FanGirl Rating: 5/5 Lemoncakes. I absolutely loved this return to the story after 8 long months. There was wit, action, nudity and extreme violence...pretty much everything that makes Game of Thrones what it is. I am super stoked for what is to come.
